Healthy lives start with healthy minds

Mind and Body

At Healthy Life Psychology we believe that “healthy lives start with healthy minds.” As a part of any journey towards overall well-being, it is critical to understand the profound connection between our mental and physical health.  The power of the Mind-Body connection is a fundamental principle that guides our approach, emphasizing the importance of cultivating a robust and resilient mindset as the first step in achieving lasting lifestyle changes. We understand that embarking on a path to wellness can be a challenging endeavor, and that’s why we are here to provide you with the support, guidance, and expertise necessary to foster a balanced and thriving existence. We are dedicated to helping you unlock the incredible potential that lies within your mind, enabling you to make sustainable, positive transformations in your life.

"I don't have any motivation"

Have you ever found yourself with the best intentions to embrace a healthier lifestyle, only to face the daunting challenge of taking that crucial first step, or worse, struggling to maintain your efforts? Did it ever feel like you were pushing a very big rock up a very big hill?

If you’ve experienced this, you’re not alone. We understand the struggles that come with initiating and sustaining healthy behavior changes, regardless of your genuine desire for transformation.

A struggle with motivation is one of the most commonly reported obstacles to making positive lifestyle changes. It’s a universal roadblock that keeps us from achieving positive shifts in our lives, such as adopting regular exercise routines. We get it – staying motivated can be tough.

Almost everything we do is driven by an element of motive.  However our motivation is not always in a direction that is compatible with our stated goals.  At Healthy Life Psychology we want to help you change that.

Hacking Motivation

We firmly believe that motivation is the key, the catalyst that can propel you towards your aspirations. Our goal is simple: to equip you with the knowledge, skills and strategies necessary to harness and amplify your motivation, helping you attain the goals that truly matter to you.

We approach the pursuit of healthy living from a Brain-Based Approach, because our brains are central to everything we do.  Understanding how our brain works is central to learning about motivation and the things we can do to take control of our own levers of motivation.

Using the latest research in Cognitive Psychology and Neuroscience, we help people to better understand the psychology of motivation and how to use this knowledge to approach your goals in a way that maximizes the chances of success.

What makes a healthy life?

What constitutes a healthy life? A healthy life means many different things to each of us depending on our background and values.  There are many ingredients that play a part, but when it comes to overall physical and psychological wellbeing, there are a four that stand out as being critical.

Sleep: The quality and quantity of our sleep is perhaps the most critical and overlooked element of our health and wellbeing.

Diet: What we eat matters.

Exercise: We were born to move, and the less physically active we are, the worse our health tends to be.

Social Connection: The better connected we are with others, the healthier we tend to be. The quality of these social connections also matters as this can also dictate the quality of our overall wellbeing.

At Healthy Life Psychology we have tailored our approach to focus on each of these critical elements of wellbeing.  No matter where you may be in your life, or what issues you may be confronting, it is likely that deficits in at least one of these areas that are contributing to your struggles.

A Healthy life and Exercise

While we assist people in pursuit of all sorts of healthy lifestyle changes, we specialise in providing support based around pursuit of one of the most commonly desired but equally elusive goals for healthy living – Exercise.

If you had to pick just one change to your lifestyle that that would add maximum value to the quality of your life, exercise would likely be right at or near the top of the list. Take a look at the TED talk by Wendy Suzuki that we have linked below to hear more about the many positive benefits exercise can have, including improvements in brain functioning.

In reality, most people need no convincing of the benefits of an active lifestyle.  That’s why most people have attempted to develop a regular exercise routine at some stage in their lives, often multiple times without successfully being able to maintain the habit.

So we set out to design a program that would help people to identify and overcome their own set of barriers to exercise. While there are many things that people report getting in the way, it often comes back to the common experience of experiencing a lack of motivation to exercise.  The EXMO program is specifically designed to assist people with the desire to build exercise into their life.  Our aim is to assist people to develop the knowledge, tools and skills that will enable them to build exercise and physical activity into their lifestyle in a way that is both sustainable and personally satisfying.
